Please don’t send screen recordings or usernames unless we ask. If a scan went wrong, the rough size of the list, how long the recording was and what WhoNew said is usually enough to start.
Recording
How do I make a good recording?
- Swipe down for Control Centre and tap Screen Recording.
- Open the profile on Instagram and tap following.
- Start at the top of the list and scroll to the bottom at a steady pace. No big flicks.
- Stop recording when you reach the end of the list.
Which devices and settings work?
Record on an iPhone with the standard text size. iPad isn’t supported yet.
WhoNew said I scrolled too fast
Record again a little more slowly. Steady scrolling reads better than quick flicks, and a long list just takes a little longer.
Does WhoNew need my Instagram login?
No. WhoNew never asks for a login, never connects to Instagram and never acts inside the Instagram app. It only reads the screen recordings you make and choose, and shows nothing you couldn’t already see yourself.
Can I scan any list?
Only lists you can already see in your own Instagram app. Please use WhoNew kindly: it’s for discovering accounts, not for monitoring anyone. See section 4 of the Terms.
Results
What is the starting point?
The first scan of a profile is its starting point. There’s nothing to compare it with yet, so it just records who is in the list. Scan again later to see who’s new.
Why is WhoNew’s count different from Instagram’s?
Instagram’s number often includes accounts its list doesn’t show you, such as deactivated accounts, and it can be slow to update. This doesn’t affect who’s new.
What does “No longer following” mean?
Those accounts were in the previous scan but not in this one. An account can also disappear from the list when it’s deactivated.
Purchases
What’s free?
Every profile’s first scan is free. On later scans, the counts, dates and “No longer following” are free; seeing who’s new needs WhoNew Unlimited or a one-off unlock for that scan.
How do I cancel WhoNew Unlimited?
On your iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → WhoNew, and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep Unlimited until the end of the year you’ve paid for.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds come from Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I have a new iPhone and my purchase is missing
Open WhoNew → Settings and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with.
Your data
Where are my scans kept?
Only on your iPhone. We never receive them. See the Privacy Policy for the details.
Will my scans move to a new iPhone?
Yes, if you set up the new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup, or transfer directly from your old iPhone.
How do I delete my scans?
Delete one profile from its history page, or everything in WhoNew → Settings → Delete all scans. Deleting the app also removes them.
