Terms of Use
In short: WhoNew compares screen recordings you make yourself, on your iPhone. It never logs in to or connects to Instagram, and it shows nothing you couldn’t already see. Use it kindly and lawfully. Results are a best reading, not a guarantee. Purchases and refunds go through Apple.
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you use the WhoNew app. WhoNew is made by Beau Lawson, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). You can contact us at support@whonewapp.com.
WhoNew is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add to the Standard EULA. If the two conflict, these terms apply, except where the Standard EULA says it takes priority.
2. How WhoNew works
You use your iPhone’s built-in Screen Recording to record a following list while you scroll through it, then choose that recording in WhoNew. WhoNew reads the usernames in the recording on your iPhone. When you record the same list again later, it compares the two readings and shows which accounts have been added.
WhoNew does not:
- ask for, store or use an Instagram login, password or session
- connect to Instagram’s servers, website, apps or APIs
- scroll, tap, record or take any action in the Instagram app for you
- collect anything in the background or without you choosing a recording
- upload your recordings or scans anywhere
- reveal private accounts or anything you couldn’t already see on your own screen
3. WhoNew and Instagram
WhoNew is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Instagram or Meta. Instagram is a trademark of Instagram, LLC, and is mentioned only to describe the recordings WhoNew can read.
Your use of Instagram is governed by Instagram’s own terms. WhoNew doesn’t change what Instagram shows you or how you use it.
4. Using WhoNew responsibly
Only use WhoNew with recordings of lists you can see in your own Instagram app. You agree not to use WhoNew:
- to harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate or monitor anyone in a way that is unlawful, or that they would reasonably find distressing
- to build lists of people’s accounts for sale, marketing, publication or any commercial purpose: WhoNew is for personal use only
- in breach of any law, or of Instagram’s terms
The usernames in your scans belong to other people. Please treat them with care, and don’t share them in ways that could harm or embarrass anyone.
5. Accuracy
WhoNew reads text from video, and results depend on the recording: scrolling too fast, missing part of the list, notifications covering the screen, or changes to Instagram’s design can all affect them. Instagram’s own counts can also differ from what its list shows. We work hard on accuracy, but we can’t promise that every result is complete or correct, so please don’t rely on WhoNew for anything important.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
The first scan of each profile is free. On later scans, the counts, dates and accounts no longer in the list are free. Seeing which usernames are new needs either:
- WhoNew Unlimited, a yearly subscription that shows new usernames for all your scans, including earlier ones, while it is active; or
- This scan only, a one-off purchase that shows new usernames for a single scan.
Prices are shown in the app before you buy and are charged by Apple in your local currency.
Automatic renewal
WhoNew Unlimited renews automatically each year and is charged to your Apple Account at the price shown, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current year. Manage or cancel it at any time in your iPhone’s Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Unlimited until the end of the year you have paid for.
What stays unlocked
A scan unlocked with a one-off purchase stays unlocked. Scans unlocked while you had Unlimited, including every scan made during that time, also stay unlocked if your subscription ends. New scans after that need Unlimited again or a one-off purchase.
Restoring purchases
On a new iPhone, tap Restore Purchases in WhoNew’s Settings to restore Unlimited. Your scans are kept only on your iPhone, so they move to a new phone only through an iPhone backup or transfer.
Refunds
All payments are processed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple under its terms, including the 14-day right to cancel that Apple offers customers in the UK. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
7. Your data
Your scans stay on your iPhone. Our Privacy Policy explains what WhoNew stores and how to delete it. If you delete the app or its scans we can’t recover them, because we never had a copy.
8. Changes
We may update WhoNew to fix problems, keep up with changes to Instagram or iOS, or improve it, and we may change or stop offering features. If we stop offering WhoNew Unlimited, we won’t charge you for it again. We may update these terms, and the date at the top will show when. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app, and continuing to use WhoNew afterwards means you accept the new terms.
9. Our responsibility to you
If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that failure. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable, for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for business losses, as WhoNew is for personal use only.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or for fraud, or affects your legal rights as a consumer, including your right to digital content that is as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using WhoNew at any time by deleting it and cancelling any subscription in your iPhone’s Settings. If you seriously breach section 4, your right to use WhoNew ends.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, and if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring them in your home courts. If you have a problem, please email us first at support@whonewapp.com and we will do our best to put it right.
